Governor of California Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency in Napa, California following a strong earthquake Sunday morning.
The magnitude 6.0 tremor left dozens injured, structures damaged and thousands without power. The strong quake sent at least 87 people to the hospital including two adults and one child listed in critical condition according to CNN. Officials believe that most of the injuries were caused by falling debris.
The earthquake triggered a fire at a mobile home park where several mobile homes completely burned down. Pictures of several homes engulfed in flames have also been filling the news screens.
California Highway Patrol confirms that several roads in the Napa and Sonoma areas were damaged and is currently checking on bridges and other structures in the area.
The earthquake which struck around 3:30am local time, is the strongest quake to hit the San Francisco Bay Area since the 1989 World Series earthquake There have been at least 5 aftershocks so far, ranging from 2.6 to 3.6 in magnitude. USGS warns that there can be many more aftershocks over the next week.
