The real estate market in Toronto is experiencing a multiyear boom. The sales numbers in May were up 10.6 percent over the same month in 2015. The average price was up 15%. Toronto Real Estate Board reports that the average price of a detached home in Toronto now stands at $1.28 million.

For many this means that owning a home is simply out of reach financially. Condos have long been the solution for those priced out of the dream of owning a home. For many first time buyers, retirees or business types they are the first choice, as the simplicity of owning a piece of concrete slab hanging in the air and not worrying about maintenance or security gives them a piece of mind to live life. Even though historically, condos were more affordable, the demand has driven the prices up 7.1% in Q2 of 2016 compared to Q2 of 2015. The average price of a condo in Toronto now stands at $442,692.

Such a hot market of course can not exist without the luxury units which sell for over $5 million. Even 1 bedroom units in certain areas can go for over $1 million.
