This gigantic air purifier cleans the air and makes jewelry out of the pollution

36 Year old Dutch inventor Daan Roosegaarde came up with a 23 foot air purifier which takes the pollutants in the air and makes them into jewelry. He told CNN Money that he came up with the idea after visiting China’s capital city 2 years ago where the smog made it not possible for him to enjoy the city view from his 32nd floor hotel room.

The air purifier uses 1400 watts of electricity per hour and uses ion technology to clean 30,000 cubic meters of air.

“Basically, it’s like when you have a plastic balloon, and you polish it with your hand, it becomes static, electrically charged, and it attracts your hair,” Daan says.

The pollutants are then sealed in a resin cube under great pressure for 30 minutes. What comes out is similar in look to a diamond, which is being sold.

The air purifier has already been tested in Rotterdam and is currently having a trial run in Beijing. Daan plans to take the project to major cities all over the world after the China trial run is complete.
