How to help the victims of the Haiti Earthquake

I have been swamped with emails and phone calls from you, wanting to know information, on how to help the victims of the terrible earthquake in Haiti.
To help you out I came up with a list of reputable organizations who are in the process or have already sent help down to Port-au-Prince.

I talked to a  RedCross representative on the show today and they would like to inform you that what they need the most now is Money. They have most of the physical relief aid stocked piled around the region already, they simply need money to fly it down and distribut it to the most affected region. It is also a lot cheaper to purchase the food, medicine etc. from neighbouring countries rather than transporting it from Canada. If you would really like to help please donate money, not physical goods, to one of the following organizations.

In Canada

The Canadian Red Cross
Plan Canada
World Vision Canada

OneXOne (Rogers/Fido customers)

Text “HELP” or “Donate” to 1291. Reply to confirmation request with ‘yes.’  You will receive a thank you message that confirms the donation and $5 will be added to your next Wireless invoice.

In USA

World Vision
International Relief Teams
American Red Cross
CARE
Catholic Relief Services
UNICEF USA
Doctors Without Borders
The Salvation Army

You can also text donations for Haiti relief from your cell phone. In addition to your donation amount, standard text messaging fees will apply.

Red Cross: Text HAITI to 90999 ($10 donation)
Yéle Haiti: Text YELE to 501501 ($5 donation)
